Exploring our very own architectural style.

You may have noticed that a particular style of housing is extremely common in the city’s older neighbourhoods.

This architectural style, the Brantford Cottage, was developed by local architect John Turner. It can be recognized by its square shape, three bay facade, centre gable and a small window overtop the front door. Between 1875 and 1900, over 150 of these homes were constructed in the areas surrounding downtown.

While some houses have been painted over or clad in siding, the original sand coloured brick is believed to be completely sourced locally as well. Pretty cool, huh?
