Steel Wheel Brewery’s Winter Course Series Returns!

When they opened Steel Wheel Brewery on Powerline Road in 2018, founders Cindy Blair and Harold Kuret also brewed a plan to make winter a bit more palatable.
A fan of unique programs in unusual places, Cindy says, “We looked at what we could offer that made people's winter go a little faster, brought in some new or regular people on a Friday night, and offered a bit of an education,” the latter being one of their top values.

The result is a curation of 2-hour workshops led by a variety of area-experts, running on Friday evenings from the end of January until the end of March. Ranging from $50-75 per person (which includes a glass of beer!), folks can register for hands-on learning experiences – like the tie dye workshop, and theoretical presentations – like Harold and Cindy’s talk on the “nuances of hop cultivation.”

Harold and Cindy are bringing back two of their personal favourites from last year – a scientist-led talk on foraging, and knife sharpening and skills with Gage Corlett from Sharp Knife Shop in Hamilton. An exciting new addition this year is a hot sauce-making workshop, with Leith Bengtson of Burlington’s Fury Hot Sauce, part of a knockout lineup. “Each of them are different and unique, so I get excited every time the next one comes!” says Cindy.
