For more than 20 years, GoodMinds.com has been supplying Indigenous books to individuals, schools and libraries across Turtle Island. Achilles Gentle, the owner of the business, says the stories GoodMind.com distributes through book form have been here since time immemorial. The collection at GoodMinds.com is vast with new books arriving daily. All of these books are Indigenous voices imparting knowledge, language and both sacred and general stories. Achilles says these stories, which share truth, love, wisdom, respect, courage, honesty and humility, are “our identity, our resilience and our hope.”

Though it’s difficult to answer which books he’s particularly passionate about, Achilles does mention authors Michael Hutchinson, David Robertson and Lorrie Gallant. Lorrie is a local author and illustrator who wrote about Dawn V. Hill’s experiences in residential school in her book “The Day I Became Number 54.”

GoodMinds.com set up the Supporting Indigenous Libraries Today (SILT) fund to help build book collections in First Nations communities. Ninety per cent of these communities have no public library. When you buy a book from GoodMinds.com, five per cent of the sale goes to SILT.

This local business has a storefront open to the public from Monday to Friday and has something for everyone – child, youth and adult. You can visit them at 188 Mohawk St. in Brantford.
